Admission Procedure
The International Montessori School – an IMEF School admits students of any nationality, religious belief and ethnic heritage.
You may apply at any time for one of our programs:
- If you are applying for our Toddler program, there is no interview required. Once you have begun this program, your child will automatically be assessed for a place in the Casa dei Bambini program, if you notify us of this interest on the application form. There is no need to submit a further application for the Casa dei Bambini or Primary Years programs once a Toddler application has been processed.
- In order to be considered for our Casa dei Bambini (Kindergarten – Primary 1) program, a child must be at least 2 years and 8 months in September of the upcoming school year. Further to Education Bureau (EDB) regulations, if a child turns three (3) after December 31st of the upcoming school year, s/he can only be considered for admission after his/her third birthday. A child may remain in the Toddler program until a place can be found in one of the Casa dei Bambini classes.
- Our Montessori Primary Years program is suited for children who will be six (6) to eleven (11) years of age by September 1 of the upcoming school year.
The following is a lising of specific steps in our admissions process:
- We ask interested parents to participate in a school tour.
- When the decision to apply is made, complete and submit either the Toddler or the standard Application Form. As class placement is based on the availability of places, we suggest you apply early.
- Interview Process:
- Toddler Groups: there is no interview.
- Casa dei Bambini (Kindergarten –Primary 1) program: your child will interact with a group of peers and teachers. One parent or caregiver may accompany the child in the interview. If your child has difficulty separating from parents, the child may be more independent if accompanied by a helper or other caregiver.
- If you applied for place in the Montessori Primary Years program, your child will be asked to participate for several hours in a normal class (if possible). The children will be assessed within a group of peers, and individual interviews will be conducted to assess academic skills and readiness for the independence and responsibility of work in a Montessori classroom. The school does not administer a standardized test for entry.
- Admissions decisions are made by administration and teaching staff. These decisions are based on an evaluation of the child’s school visit, prior school records /transcripts, and the needs of the child and each individual class. Parents will be contacted regarding our admissions decision as soon as possible.
