IMS SUMMER FUN PROGRAMS - 2010

We are pleased to confirm our Summer Fun Program this year, which will be held at our South Horizons Campus. We look forward to another 8 weeks of fun with Mandarin and English programs:

Summer Fun for Children Ages 6 to 9 years

Montessori Read & Write!

Reading is a complex skill with many components:  an understanding of how sounds are put together to make words; fluidity in reading those words; an ongoing need for an ever-growing vocabulary; and an overall comprehension of understanding what is read. All of these areas will be addressed the Montessori way in our new Montessori Read & Write summer course.

 

Mathematics Made EASY! for Children Ages 6 to 9 years

Mathematics, when introduced using Montessori materials, suddenly makes sense.  Is your child struggling to understand mathematics?  Is your child bored with the low level of mathematics s/he is exposed to in school? Do you want your child to love this area of learning?  Come and explore how your child can feel like a “Math Genius” using Montessori mathematics materials in a fun, supportive environment over the summer.

 

Summer Fun in English or Mandarin for Children Aged 3 to 9 years:   

 (Including children starting in our Casa Program in August 2010)

Each Summer Fun Program will last 2 weeks (Monday to Friday), with a focus on different themes in English or Mandarin. Children will be grouped into different classes according to their age and/or language ability, with a teacher student ratio of 1 to 12. Depending on the weather, one outing per Program will be arranged as we explore Hong Kong to find places and interesting things that relate to the themes. Each child must be accompanied by an adult chaperone on such outings.  Outings will typically be held on one morning in the second week of each Program – afternoon students are invited to join the morning session on that day, or may join the afternoon session as usual in which case he/she will not participate in the outing.

* This outing will be held in the afternoon to accommodate the opening hours of the Museums

For the Montessori Program in English:

  • Children are grouped according to their age.
  • The focus will be on small group activities, and will include cooking, arts & crafts, music and movement and drama activities that reflect the Program themes described above. Other activities will be introduced as age appropriate and based on the children’s interest.

For the Montessori Mandarin Language Immersion Program:

  • Children are grouped according to their Mandarin Language understanding.
  • Small group activities include crafts, cooking, Chinese calligraphy, painting, music and movement and drama that reflect the Program themes described above.
  • The Chinese language elements are tailored to your child’s level, as in all of our Programs.  The focus is on the spoken language. Character recognition and writing are introduced as developmentally appropriate.

Summer Fun Toddler Groups for Children Aged 18 months to 3 years*:

The IMS Toddler Group provides an environment in which children interact alongside a Montessori teacher who guides the child, offering appropriate learning materials. Caregivers accompany the children on campus, and have many opportunities to learn more about how to observe their toddlers’ development at home.

The Montessori teacher conducts carefully-planned activities which lead the child to build sensory-motor skills, socialization skills, high self-esteem, inner security, and abiding habits of concentration.

The IMS Toddler Groups serve children who are 18 months to 3 years in age, in a small and intimate environment with a maximum of 8 children to one teacher. If your child will be entering our Casa program in September 2010, please enroll him/her in the Summer program for children aged 3 and above (see above).

*Priority will be given to IMS current students and those applying to our Toddler groups.

All classes will be offered only if minimum numbers are reached, and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.  Once places have been confirmed, we regret that no refund or changes in program will be possible.
